Verandah Concerts mark 20th year
Twenty years ago the Rutherford B. Hayes Presidential Center hosted its first free outdoor concert series. Today, Verandah Concerts are a favorite summertime activity for people throughout Northwest Ohio and beyond.
The 2014 series opened June 11. Each Verandah Concert begins at 6:45 p.m. with an old-fashioned ice cream social. Attendees can grab a cup of hand-dipped Ohio-made Tofts ice cream as they relax in lawn chairs on the spacious lawn in front of the home of 19th U.S. President Rutherford B. Hayes.
The verandah of the elegant 31-room house serves as the stage for the concerts. Musical performances begin at 7 p.m. and last an hour. Admission is FREE thanks to sponsorship from Fremont Federal Credit Union.
Other concerts in the series include: July 9 Terra Brass Choir; July 23 Honey Creek Preservation Jass Band; August 6 Cottonwood Jam String Band; and August 20 the North Coast Big Band.Attendees are reminded to bring their own seats and come prepared for the weather. In the event of thunderstorms, the event will be canceled.
