Our 4th of July is a Blast!
A line of cannon fire to punctuate performance of the '1812 Overature.'For a truly bone-rattling celebration of the Fourth of July, the place to be is the Hayes Presidential Center’s Independence Day Concert. Set for 2:00-3:30 p.m. Thursday, July 4 on the lawn in front of the home of 19th President Rutherford B. Hayes, the event features a performance by the Toledo Symphony Concert Band. Civil War reenactors provide unique percussion to the band’s performance of the 1812 Overture by firing a series of cannon. The effect is thrilling!

Additional support is provided by Mosser Construction Inc, Richard Binau Insurance & Financial Services, and United Ohio Insurance Co.

Attendees are reminded to bring their own seats and come prepared for the weather (sunscreen and/or bug spray.) Snacks and drinks can be purchased at a refreshment stand. Free parking is available on the grounds of the Hayes Presidential Center and adjoining city streets.

The Toledo Symphony Concert Band is Northwest Ohio’s premiere musical ensemble. The talented musicians who play in the band are members of the Toledo Symphony Orchestra. Their stage for the Independence Day Concert is the verandah on the 31-room Hayes mansion.

Repertoire for the concert includes show tunes, popular favorites, a selection of flag-waving melodies, and an Armed Forces tribute. Military veterans in the audience are invited to stand when the theme of their branch of the armed services is played. Those attending the Independence Day Concert are encouraged to show their patriotic spirit by wearing red, white, and blue clothing.
